Shabby chic

We went to a Children's Christmas Craft-happening on last Saturday. It was on our local church, and there was crafting, yes, but also Christmas porridge and little flea market. And you know me, I might skip my daily porridge but walk past a yard sale... Never.

I spotted that old, somewhat little shabby-looking Iittala-box (it looks like it would be from 70s or so) and when I took a closer look, I saw the little handwritten text on top:

"Christmas decorations" and I was sold even without opening the box.

And when I did open it, I couldn't believe it! Similar decorations than in my childhood (seventies too), especially those balloons in blue and yellow and red... And similar DIY-hanging threads (black sewing thread, happy knots and all different lengths) as we used to have! We still have those in my mom's tree, and every single year my sis puts up a few and I some, never only one of us can put them all up. Never. That's how special they are. Especially the blue one... And now I have a mini-version of it for my tree!

There were other treasuries too, and even I definitely didn't need any more decorations, these will find their way to our tree.

I actually have a motto: "Rather than leave out a pretty (or otherwise special) decoration, one should buy a bigger tree. Or two, that's definitely recommendable."

Happy December 5th!

Yours,
Mia

P.S. Giveaway here until December 15th! Welcome!

Hi Vivienne,

I love my "new" baubles... And the idea that someone have enjoyed those before us and they didn't go to waste...They'll have a great home here!

I am not promising anything ;) and am still a bit shocked that I have posted 5days in a row but I'll try!

Happy Tuesday!

Yours,
Mia

Hi Mia!
Hyvaa Itsenaisyyspaivaa!
Good Indipendence day!
That was a treasure box; I'm happy for you!
Your mittens are so adorable! I love all of them - but you know that I couldn't wear them, so I don't put my name on the list. I hope someone from a cold place will be the lucky one!
About the photos: I think your winter photos are wonderful! It doesn't matter if they are sometimes cloudy and dark - they are different! If we all have everytime sunny blue sky, it would be boring. I'm looking forward to see more your winter atmosphere!

Hello dear Teje,

Hyvää Itsenäisyyspäivää!

And thank you for complimenting my pictures, I just purchased a tripod for my camera so I could (when I'll know out how it works first) get a bit less shaky ones :) The only time here to take outside pics during the day is between 14-16, otherwise it's just too dark...*sigh*

I will be offering an alternative for those wonderful people like you who cannot wear wool for one reason or another, I'll let you know soon! I just want everyone to be able to participate!

Yours,
Mia

What a lovely find there Mia...I love all the old decorations. I hang some of both my grandparents on my tree and I had a lucky Ebay find some years ago. As for 2 trees...well of course that is normal ;0)
By the way what is Christmas porridge??
Happy 6th Dec my dear.

Hello Jane,

I thought I would get your vote for two trees ;) and that might happen here this year too! And that Christmas porridge is more of a rice pudding we eat here on Christmas morning(s) with some cinnamon and sugar and some add an almond (one, whole) into the pot and person who finds it either gets a little prize or good luck for next year :)

Happy Tuesday!

Yours,
Mia

What a great find! I have exactly the same memories of ornaments from the 70's, I'm afraid they have all been replaced in my Mum's house by more modern ones, which is a shame as I'd love to have them on my tree now. Bethx

How wonderful, Beth, that we share similar memories from 70s! Our tree had very few branches then (I have checked the pictures!) but the baubles and such were big and shiny, and I loved them so!
And this was a very happy find indeed!

Have a wonderful week!

Mia

This time of the year...

Usually around this time, when children go back to school, and you can just about to smell the autumn, I start to dig deeper in my fabric...
