The best things in life are free

Midsummer is just around the corner, and June is turning into its last week soon, amazing! The great weather we had in May and beginning of June has disappeared, and rain has been if not constant, a regular visitor at least, but now it is promised just might be getting better. Tomorrow and Saturday are full of the traditional Midsummer celebrations here, and I wish some sunshine for those days as most of the activities are planned to happen outdoors. And just in case sun will not shine, I have stacked some new yarn (in sale, yippee) and great magazines.

Business-wise last weeks have been pretty slow, and Finnish Post is trying to make it even more slower by increasing the shipping fees (which are pretty high already). They actually applied the new rates in beginning of June already, and justified the increase by saying that "everything is more expensive these days" and also "people keep sending less and less mail" - blimey! Do they really think adding the cost of sending increases the volume? I would be stunned (and annoyed, really) by their logic if this wasn't the way everything is reasoned around here these days, and I just can't be bothered anymore. All this said I must say that Finnish Post makes the most wonderful stamps each year, and those Moomins are just too cute.

And also as I think whining is never not a great option, I am offering the FREE SHIPPING on my etsy shop for ALL ITEMS ANYWHERE 20.6. - 24.6.2013 not only to get my hands on those cute Moomin-stamps but also to create that mail the Finnish Post is so desperately asking us Finns to send! So if there's something you've been eyeing in my shop, now it's time to have it completely shipping-free! Happy browsing!

Lovely Midsummer Eve's Eve!

Yours,
Mia

Dear Mia,I wish your the most happy and sunny 'Juhannus'! Thank you for Moomin stamps I got with your last parcel! My Moomin pouch and bag-charm/kayring are still on my sewing table because there I can see them most often! I'm also really sad for the post costs - I would love to get fabrics from US but the shipping is out of space!
Hugs & kisses! x Teje

Ahhh the logic of the mailing services ( and I use the term 'service' loosely)!
Love the new yarn, nothing quite as delicious as some new yarn! :)
I hope you have wonderful mid-summer celebrations and I really hope that sun shines for you!!
Happy Thursday my friend,

Ah, I'm sure these big business types know what they are doing. Or do they! Anyway, love the Moomins. Remember reading them to my daughter. And I'm sure they used to be on tv.

Hello Vivienne,

I know, there's really no logic but they just wish to get same money than previous years even there's less mail sent *sigh* - but oh my, at least our stamps are cheerful :)

I wish you a wonderful Midsummer weekend, sunshine form here!

Mia

Hello Mia, have been peeping through your blog and admiring your lovely makes, such lovely things. Summer has disappeared here too and it doesn't much feel like end of June. Let us hope the lovely weather is waiting around the corner. All the best, Pam in Norway

Hi my dear Mia...I seem to have missed your post from last week! I hope the sunshine is shining for you, we are past the longest day now. The Moomin stamps are great but I am sure we would all just rather have cheaper postage rates....sigh! Happy weekend my friend, Jane x

Hello dear Jane,

You got it, dear friend, my thoughts exactly, the stamps are the cutest, but...

It's been very hot&humid&stormy here, and it's sunny and +26C as I type s no complaints here...I wish it's wonderfully summery at yours too!

Happy Mid-Summer Mia, I hope you had a lovely longest day and that the sun did come out for you. We have also had a big postal price increase, it's really parcels that have been hit but it certainly makes a difference, there are some things I will have to stop selling and I know others are in the same position. It's so hard when you are a small home run business to keep making a profit. Bethx

Hello Beth,

We've had the greatest ever summer here, hot and sunny, and Midsummer was just like that too. I wish it's been pretty at yours also? And the postal fees...It's same here, sending some items will be almost as expensive as the item itself...Where's the point? Oh my... But stamps are pretty still!

Wishing you the loveliest July!

Yours,
Mia

We too have these silly shipping price increases which makes it very hard for small business users. I got quite depressed when ours increased but thought I've just got to get on with it and go with the flow....grrrr!
I love the green and white yarn, so refreshingly pretty! xx

Hello Suzy,

It's comforting to hear, that others struggle with same issues although I wish we would not need to. The biggest problem here is that if you send something over 3cm thick, you need to pay for maxi-letter price, no matter how light the thing is. So sending out felted bags an pouches... Silly!

Have a lovey Tuesday, sunny and bright!

Yours,
Mia

The post office's reasoning of less mail is a wee bit of hoo-eey.
Here in the US, package volumes are up 14%, bulk mail up over 8% and even first class letters are re-bounding.
I don't get the reasoning for the higher costs if volumes of mail are increasing.
Have you heard of postcrossing?
My friend in Japan got me hooked and a lot of Finnish peoples are registered on the site (Postcrossing.com)

I like my Moomin cups that I got last summer. Talk about a smile.

Hello Kathy,

Thank you so much for your info of your mailing! It sounds great that something is up at least, I think (I have no actual data) it's been less and less letter&all sent here yearly, people even do not sent the Christmas-cards anymore, the text...So sad!

I wish you the most wonderful July, may it be happy and sunny! Happy Moomin-cup sipping in the sun!

Yours,
Mia

Usually around this time, when children go back to school, and you can just about to smell the autumn, I start to dig deeper in my fabric...
