New Year !

It is 2010 already - how did that happen?

I have been enjoying holidays for two weeks now, and both Christmas and New Year´s celebrations have passed - wonderful, peaceful, joyful, chocolate-ful holidays. I feel so relaxed and happy, I must have been even more tired than I realized.

This year has started as 2009: it is freezing cold, and I have spent quite some time inside and started slowly knitting and felting again. I have not done any actual New Year´s resolutions, for 2010 I just wish many many happy crafting moments and million new ideas and most of all: time to execute them all.

I think it´s time to say a proper goodbye for last year and see what was done. With these pictures (and there were many to choose from, I was amazed actually!) I wish you all

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010!

Sewing and loving it

I have done some sewing today, and actually it´s one down - two to go -situation. We have three sofas at our house and they´re soft, comfy and much used. They´re also used with chocolate/coffee/kids/tea/anything and after several years they just need some coverage. I have some throws and shawls already but I wanted some christmassy ones. But of course and about a week before holidays. That is so me.

I tried to find something from etsy, but I realized that I am so late with this, there was no chance to get anything shipped to Finland before Holidays. Also three gorgeous handmade quilts would have broken the bank so I opted much used and less expensive option: self sewn.

I am not a quilter, nope, so no hand-stitching or any other wonderfulness for me. But I have pretty fabrics and a great sewing machine so I think I can pull this one off and get some comfy and pretty things done. My color scheme for Christmas is red&white with some blue (and some Moomins, apparently) and here´s the first:

All the fabrics are reused except the red-green-hearts backing. I purchased that on last January with some 5 euros/7usd (it a was set of curtains and on sale -70%) but never used it - now it found the perfect spot! I also used some of the last scraps from my winter Moomins fabric and I am loving it! And now I am off to sew some more...

Happy third advent Sunday!

The very last one...

...Felted bag before Christmas, that is.

There´s a Christmas carol in Finland (probably you sing it in English also but I am too lazy to google that now, sorry) where we sing about summer coming into our winter and that´s what inspired me to make yet an another flowery felted bag. Now I am putting my needles down for a bit and concentrate on Holidays. Yippee!

I only have a week before my three week holidays (confirmed by my dear boss two days ago!) so I am really cheerful. I am happily doing bits and bobs - some cleaning, some Christmas cards, some sewing (for me, that is!) and really getting into holiday spirits - I wish you all that too! We have had some snow too and it´s pretty and white outside.

The only minus (quite literally) is that some forecasts tell us that next week we´re really getting a winter here. They say it might drop down to -30-35C which I consider pretty cold. Well we´ll see, maybe it won´t get that bad after all. And a week before holidays - I´ll be singing come rain or shine!

Happy weekend!

It´s only a month away...

...Christmas that is! It makes me so happy - just to think about it. I love everything in Christmas, but the most wonderful thing is that we´ll have some free time as a family. Everyone has been so deathly busy, we really need some time together (and off work). I am dreaming of three weeks break but my boss has not confirmed yet. Please keep your fingers crossed for me!

I made a felt holiday-bag, as you can see! It it not the most traditional snowman bag - there is a happy little guy holding his colorful (button)balloons. At least the lining is somewhat christmassy.

We (me and my sis) managed to get most of our Christmas shopping done on last Saturday - so now it is just a four weeks of waiting - and hopefully little by little slowing things down. If only I could leave those wools alone!

Have a wonderful Tuesday!

I love birdies

I really do love birds. I use them at my own work (a lot!) but I also like them at my own home - and somehow it seems that my latest handmade buys are birds too! I am going to decorate our house for holiday spirits next weekend. Not the tree quite yet but lights , more candles, and some other beauties... Like these:

I found them via etsy (we could actually say that we found each other there!), and they´re made by the nicest and the most talented Rachael, please take a look at her shop here and blog here - they´re full of knitted beauty! I actually have visited her again for some more...

And when those red beauties go up, it´s time to say good-bye for these two guys for a while:

See you again after Christmas!

I found those two little sweethearts via dawanda, they´re done by talented Helga - please take a look at her shop here!

Now I am off to work - have a wonderful week beginning!

This time of the year...

Usually around this time, when children go back to school, and you can just about to smell the autumn, I start to dig deeper in my fabric...
