Photoshoot in winter wonderland

You would think that once you lived in Finland, in a country with notoriously long and cold and snowy winters, there should be no problem shooting some lovely pictures from winter-ish items in mid-November. Yeah right. There is about ten minutes (well I might exaggerating a little here but not much more, I promise) of light-ish time during the day, and as there is no snow to lighten the scenery up... You got the picture and pretty it ain't. So what does one do?

She tries to fake it, naturally. And with no success, I must say. If it wasn't the not-so-natural looking star lights on those twigs that gave it away, the big bottle on top of the dresser just might.

Is the situation outside really that bad, you ask, maybe it is just a bit gloomy or...

No, bad it is.

But please do not blame the little snowmen, they did everything they could to look as cheerful as possible, even with the fake spruce I wrapped on the terrace fence.

Oh my. But once I realized the snowflakes and glimmering rays of sunshine just were not there today, it all got better. And little snowmen posed little real pros, and a picture after picture was taken. They all are in my shop here, just in case you would need a cheery little snowman to enlighten to your days. And now that I looked those twig-in-a-bottle images the little guys look so cheerful, that I am rolling some white wool here again to make some to stay with us too!

Cheerful Monday, everyone!

Yours,
Mia

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween dear friends! We do not celebrate it here that much, but starting with it made a great disguise for the fact that it is the very last day of October, and my blogging has not been too plentiful lately *ahem* but let's keep camouflaging that with these happy things I have been creating during this month:

It has been quite busy around here lately, but I have found time to make a few mushrooms here, some little balls and birdies there...

... And I simply have not been worrying that I usually have the C-stockings ready by now. This year seems to be a bit different, but hey, as long as my creations are cheery and make me you smile we are all good. So some happy autumn-wreaths here we go:

There are happy birds, autumn flowers and leaves to put up outside or to your window...

...and some happy toadstools for your front door or to cheer up the cabinets inside...

...and the most autumnal of the all birdie-wreath with some happy acorns and a big leaf

All in my shop now. With these I wish you the most wonderful weekend, and ...

...Happy November soon!

Yours,
Mia

Dreaming of the Riviera

"Snorkmaiden, what are you doing?"

"Oh, just trying on these beautiful pearls I got on Riviera, do you still remember our trip?"

"Sure. I think that lovely lady Tove made a scrap-book* or something from our travels... Here it is!"

"We had fantastic time, do you remember that bikini you bought, and there are those pearls too... What? Mamma, did you say something?"

"Oh yes, dear! There is a moving coming out soon of our time on Riviera. Sniff saw the ad on someone's instagram while searching this autumn's latest bling-trends, and I just read about in this newspaper too!"

"A movie? Whaaat? Our travels? Starring us? Snorkmaiden, did you hear that? Snorkmaiden...?!"

*faint*

Alive and kicking

Hello everyone! I am still here, even it seems that blogging is on the bottom of the arm-long list this month. Oh my, what a busy month this has been, but luckily October (starting next week btw, how did this happen?) should be a bit easier. I am not moaning here though, I have gathered all these things to do for myself, and I am getting it all done one thing at the time.

We have had such a lovely autumn weather, warm and sunny but yesterday we hit by a snow storm. You read it right, s-n-o-w. It started on the previous night already, and lasted all day. The snow was so heavy (wet) it cut trees and/to power lines, and our whole city was out of electricity for hours. There were many car accidents too as everyone still has their summer tires on (well obviously as it has been almost +20C and sunny for past weeks). Today has been windy and rainy (some snow, mostly sleet) and there is still a lot of snow on the ground. I refuse to show you any pictures*, as I simply can't believe we had almost 20cm/7.8" snow on September 23rd. Maybe if I do not think it, it goes away.

A lovely, sweet girl turned one recently, and we had such a wonderful family occasion. No bouncy castle quite yet, but other happy things pink (please notice her vehicle on one photo), and one smiling birthday-girl. She has a blast celebrating, went for a nap (almost two hours) and continued partying. What a lovely little lady!

It seems that my next thing to do (decorate mittens) is more than appropriate for the weather around here *ahem* and I have been busily knitting some more too when ever I have had a minute to spare. They should start appearing in my shop during this weekend, I hope. In the meanwhile I wish you the most wonderful last days of September, and wish to see you much more often here come October!

Yours,
Mia

*Well there are some to see on my Instagram as I couldn't believe my eyes yesterday. Today I am just annoyed that the snow is still there.

Quarter report

Lovely September, everyone! We have still beautiful, sunny and warm weather, not too bad at all. This month will be quite busy due to all different things happening almost at the same time, but I really wish this autumn will then continue happy and more relaxed than last year when I ended up having a long blog-break.

Autumn has always been a new start for me, sort of second New Year really, as holidays are over, and work and schools start. It is time for a new calendar, planning future and taking a little look back too. I am playing with new ideas for the months to come, and even it should not be said out loud yet: In the online selling-world Christmas seems to be just around the corner... I am not that organized, yet, but getting there.

But here we go, here comes the unofficial HandmadebyMia Quarter Report 2014 starting with some earthly-toned birdies

and following with some more colored birds

and then there are some happy cats

and some Moomins too

Looking pretty me, don't you think? A tad more color to brighten the gray and rainy autumn and winter days and we are all done, right? And believe it or not, I am pretty well prepared for the upcoming season:

Happy first week of September!

Yours,
Mia

This time of the year...

Usually around this time, when children go back to school, and you can just about to smell the autumn, I start to dig deeper in my fabric...
